Official Announcement

Per The Huntsville Times:

HUNTSVILLE, AL — Two candidates have emerged for the District 3 Huntsville City Council seat being vacated by Sandra Moon.

Jonathan Hitt, a Department of Defense cost analyst, and James Lomax, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, confirmed this morning that they will run for the seat representing southeast Huntsville.

The municipal election is Aug. 24.

Hitt, 30, said his financial background could help the city avoid costly mistakes like the Madison County Jail construction project, now $50 million over budget.

“Having that $50 million in the bank would have been beneficial to the city,” he said.

An Eagle Scout, Hitt has a master’s degree in accounting from UAH and teaches “Principles of Accounting” at Calhoun Community College.
